About RecoveryCost.com
Choosing addiction treatment is one of the hardest decisions a family makes — and it usually happens without the one piece of information every other big decision gets: the price.
Our mission
RecoveryCost.com exists to make behavioral healthcare pricing transparent. We believe people seeking treatment for themselves or someone they love deserve to compare real, sourced costs the same way they would for any other major expense — calmly, before a crisis forces a rushed decision. Price transparency is consumer advocacy: it helps families budget, ask better questions, and avoid surprises.
Why treatment prices have been hard to find
Historically, most treatment centers have not published prices, and usually not for sinister reasons. What a stay actually costs depends on the level of care, the length of stay, and what each insurance plan has negotiated — so there was rarely one number to post. Healthcare pricing as a whole grew up around negotiations between providers and insurers rather than posted menus, and addiction treatment inherited that norm.
The result, though, is that families make five-figure decisions with less price information than they would have buying a used car. New federal transparency rules and public datasets now make it possible to change that — which is the work we do here.
What we publish
- A free directory listing for every facility, built from government datasets and facility-submitted information.
- Pricing by level of care, always with a visible source label and an "as of" date — see our methodology for exactly how each figure is produced.
- Reported insurance-network participation, payment options, and plain-language cost guides.
- A public dispute process: anyone can flag an error, and we aim to resolve disputes within five business days.
Team and editorial review
RecoveryCost.com's guides are written and maintained by our founder, whose credentials and background are public:
Licensed clinical reviewers will join the roster as our review program grows — we publish real names and real credentials only. Every guide carries its author and last-updated date; our standards are documented in the editorial policy.
Ownership
RecoveryCost.com's ownership also has interests in behavioral healthcare providers. Affiliated facilities participate in this directory on identical terms to every other facility and are labeled identically. Read the full disclosure — including our flat-fee business model and why we never accept per-patient compensation — in How We Make Money.
